High in the upper reaches of the Earth Kingdom resides the Northern Air Temple. It was home to the Flying Bison polo championships in the days when the monks lived in it. After the extermination of the monks, the temple was rediscovered by The Mechanist and his group of refugees. During the years the refugees lived in it, some where eventually seen by other Earth Kingdom villagers, who came to call those they saw gliding as "Air Walkers". The Mechanist used the gliders within to give his paraplegic son Teo a new life in the air.
The Northern Temple was modified by the Mechanist to house more people than before, and many of the original structures were destroyed or expanded to help accommodate the new residents. The temple also underwent many technological "upgrades", as the Mechanist added new inventions to help make the lives of the residents easier. The new changes angered Aang at first, who saw it as a violation of the temple's original sanctity, but in the end he decided that the refugees were like the hermit crabs that inhabit the temple's corridors, and was happy that they had found this empty shell and made it their home.
Now the temple has been restored to much of it's former glory. There are still remains of the Mechanist's time, however both past and present have been brought into balance. The Air Nomad's traditions as well as the modernizations the Mechanist brought, now work side by side.

Western Air Temple Along with the Eastern Air Temple, it exclusively housed female Airbenders. This temple is located in the mountains north of the Fire Nation. It is unique in that, unlike the other temples, it was built underneath the edge of a cliff instead of atop a mountain. The spires seem as though they were built upside-down, and because of that, the temple is hidden to the passerby. Its design allows wind to flow into even the deepest chambers, which made the Air Nomads feel quite at home.
The temple also features a hall of statues and some interesting recreational spots, such as a giant Pai Sho table, an all-day echo chamber, and an air bison obstacle course and racetrack.
Though it suffered significant damages during Ozai's Reign as Fire Lord, Air Nomads have re-build it since. It's now fully restored and functional.

Southern Air Temple (2 sub-boards) Located in the remote Patola mountain range (Air Nomad Territory), the Southern, Jongmu Air Temple, supposedly only accessible via Flying Bison, was the boyhood home of the current Avatar, Aang, and his father-like mentor, Monk Gyatso (whom of which there is a statue of in the inner sanctuary). The Southern Air Temple was also home to Avatar Roku who needed a place to learn and master the art of Airbending.
It was raided early in the war during Fire Lord Sozin's genocide on the Air Nomads; during the raid the temple was not that badly damage, and it took merely months to restore it to it's former state.
The temple is large and peaceful, has an Air Ball arena, and is also where the "Air Scooter" was first invented by Aang. It also has an Air Temple Sanctuary in which reside numerous statues of past Avatars. It is unique to the Southern Air Temple. The temple itself primarily served as a training ground for Airbender students. Though once barren and abandoned by humans and animals alike, it is now inhabited by Flying Bison and Winged-Lemurs once again. As a result of being built for and by the monks, several of the temples' doors and mechanisms are operable only through means of airbending. A statue of Monk Gyatso stands at the entrance to the temple. Unlike the other three temples, the Southern Temple's spires are blue, instead of green.
Eastern Air Temple Along with the Western Air Temple, it exclusively housed female Airbenders and was home to Sister Iio. This temple was destroyed by the Fire Nation. When Aang, the former Avatar, was to be separated from his mentor, Monk Gyatso, the elders of the Southern Air Temple had decided to send Aang to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training without Gyatso's fatherly influence. However, before they could do this, Aang overheard their plans and ran away.
The Eastern Air Temple was where Aang chose Appa as a Sky Bison partner and is probably where Appa was born. Guru Pathik waited there for a few years awaiting the Avatar's appearance, because he saw a vision of himself helping the Avatar in his future. Interestingly, the Guru wore clothes of the same color as those of the Airbenders, and claimed to have important information for Aang. He later taught Aang how to control the Avatar State.
Unlike the Northern and Southern Air temples, the Eastern Air temple is housed on three mountains.
This air temple was the former home to many sky bisons -- and since the slaying of the Air Nomads, the stables was home to many spider bats.
Since that time, the temple has been restored and is populated with bison. Many female airbenders call this place home still.
Roku's Island A small Fire Nation island which bore and homed the previous Avatar Roku. Over 100 years ago, it was home to a prosperous village. When Roku wasn't attending to his Avatar duties, Roku and his wife Ta Min dwelt peacefully in a modest cottage here, raising their family. Currently, the isle bares the resemblance of a barren wasteland, showing no signs of past or present civilization. This is a result of a volcanic eruption which took place 112 years ago that buried the island village in deep ash. In the end, Roku and his dragon, Fang, lost their lives battling the volcanic eruption in the effort to save the island.
Fire Fountain City Fire Fountain City is a large, industrial city located in the Fire Nation. It is named for the large, fire-breathing statue of Fire Lord Ozai in its center, which was later destroyed.
This is one of the many industrial towns in the Fire Nation that supports the war effort. The city was once named North Chung-Ling but was changed to Fire Fountain City due to the fire fountain of which they are known for. The city is a working class town with a very seedy element. It's not safe to walk around Fire Fountain City at night, so most citizens stay indoors.
